The Strikers Futsal Club are pleased to announce the opening of both Womens and Mixed Leagues at our St Albans Heights Primary School Stadium on Thursday nights starting Thursday the 13th of October. Due to renewed interest and also our willingness to offer the Futsal community a more comprehensive package, we have decided to extend our expertise into the Womens and Mixed Social League's.
THURSDAY NIGHT MIXED SOCIAL LEAGUE
The Mixed Social League will cater for both women and men wanting to play casually in an enjoyable, friendly atmosphere, where the onus is not on winning but about fun, fitness and playing the game. This league will be the only one offered of its type in the Brimbank area, and we are hoping to make it one of the most successful in Melbourne.
For a short time we are offering an amazing introductory deal to all MALES that currently play at the Strikers Futsal Club or Fathers/Mothers of Juniors at the Strikers. AN AMAZING OFFER OF PLAYING FOR FREE. YES FOR FREE FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2011. All you have to do is get a minimum of three males together and two paying females and you have a team. THURSDAY NIGHT WOMENS LEAGUE
Following interest from a number of teams, we are also starting a Womens League. We are calling all Female Futsal enthusiasts to enter a team in a well run, competetive competition. Currently there is no Female Futsal Competition in the whole of the North West Suburbs, and the Strikers Futsal Club want to be the first centre to offer women the chance to play Futsal in the area.
In another great offer, we are giving current male players and parents the chance to get paid a commission of $100 for each womens team they successfully refer and register in the Strikers Thursday Womens Competition. This is strictly limited to the remainder of 2011!

HISTORY OF FUTSAL
The origin of Futsal can be traced back to Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1930 when Juan Carlos Ceriani devised a five-a-side version of soccer for youth competition in YMCAs. The game is played on basketball-sized courts, both indoors and out without the use of sidewalls.
The term FUTSAL is the international term used for the game. It is derived from the Spanish or Portuguese word for "soccer", FUTbol or FUTebol, and the French or Spanish word for "indoor", SALon or SALa.
The game is frequently referred to as Five-A-Side. Once Ceriani got the ball rolling, Futsal gained rapid popularity throughout South America, particularly in Brazil. The skill developed in this game is visible in the world-famous style the Brazilians display outdoors on the full-sized field. Pele, Zico, Socrates, Bebeto and other Brazilian superstars developed their skill playing Futsal. While Brazil continues to be the Futsal hub of the world, the game is now played, under the auspices of FIFA, all over the world, from Europe to North and Central America and the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and Asia and Oceania.
In Australia, futsal was introduced by Mrs. Dawn Gilligan in 1971 during winter when outdoor grounds were closed for long periods of time due to rain. The Revesby YMCA in Sydney was the first place where it was played and from there it spread to the others YMCA’s.
In 1977 the Australian Indoor Soccer Association was created. In 1979 they affiliated with FIFUSA and started to play with the official rules of futbol sala, one of the original forms of Futsal.
The peak of indoor soccer in Australia occurred in the 80s with a televised National League and the 1988 FIFUSA World Cup in Melbourne. When in 1989 FIFA took over the sport and baptized it as Futsal, the Australian Indoor Soccer Association changed its name to Australian Futsal Association.
From its humble beginnings, futsal has developed significantly in popularity and stature. The popularity of the sport has continued to grow and was at an all time high in 2006, due to the Australian national team’s solid performance at the 2006 World Cup. Since then, futsal has quickly established itself as one of Australia’s most popular sports. Australia is one of the few countries in the world that has participated in all of the world cups and it is estimated to have 18,000 registered players and 120,000 social participants in futsal competitions all over the country.
ST ALBANS STRIKERS FUTSAL CLUB
Founded in 2006, the St Albans Strikers Futsal Club has been involved at the highest level of Futsal in Victoria for the last 5 years. The club has two senior teams and six junior teams playing in the 2011 FFV Melbourne Futsal League, which is played in recreation centres across Melbourne. We also enter teams in the annual FFV Club Futsal Championships and have a very strong club competition with over 30 Senior teams and 32 Junior teams playing in our respective weekly leagues.
We also run coaching clinics for new players to Futsal in the 6 – 13 year age group and have over 350 committed players across all age groups. We are one of the biggest and most successful Futsal Clubs in Victoria.

2011 STRIKERS MENS TEAM CAMPAIGN
The Strikers Men’s team will be participating in the 2011 MFL held every Friday night starting the 6th of May and running to the end of September. Finals are held at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre and are televised on the Channel 31 Football Show and seen by thousands of people on You Tube and the world wide web. The Strikers have played in both the previous 2009 and 2010 Finals.
The Strikers Men’s team will also be representing Victoria in the Australia wide F League, which includes 3 NSW clubs, an ACT side and two teams from Victoria. Matches will be streamed on line, with a massive campaign to promote the league across the three states. The thousands of Futsal players and supporters will be looking at this competition as a re-establishment of a National Futsal League. The Competition will involve all 6 clubs playing each other across 3 series, with each event held in Sydney.

Currently the only way our Club can participate in National Mens Competitions is to charge our dedicated, hard working players a hefty fee to cover the airfare, accommodation and travel expenses. The Club attempts to subsidise the cost of participation for the players, however we simply do not have the allocated funds to significantly reduce the costs.

Player’s Sponsorship
For players that arrange for a small business owner or other interested persons to pay the subscriptions for a player. The player will receive one half of the donation towards his/her subscriptions and the small business owner or other interested person will become a member of the Vice Presidents Club with the benefits outlined above and also receive a framed certificate to display in their business premises acknowledging their support
