The Strikers are well represented in this years National Futsal Championships, with no fewer than seven of its best Junior players selected to represent Victoria.

Moses Gondwe, selected in the U'14 team was one of the biggest improvers in 2011. Selected to play central defender in the MFL and Victorian Club Championships, it gave Moses a new sense of responsibility and direction. Quick and skillfull, he is always deadly with his late runs into the attacking half.

Nathan Liberto, playing in his third National Championhips is exstatic about his opportunity to pull the Big V on again in the U'13 competition. The classy leftfooter is great at getting past his opponent and beating the goalkeeper time after time.

Another Strikers player to play in three Nationals in a row is the calm, controlled and collected Jamie Gazelle. The U'13 utility can be used in any position and has a very smart Futsal brain.

Ryan Dragovic is another U'13 Striker who is representing Victoria for the third time. Defenders cant give him an inch of space as he is able to score from any position and angle on the Futsal court.

James Kapuranovski has capped a stellar year with his second Victorian selection. The U'13 shotstopper excelled in the recent Victorian Club Championships, showing himself to be one of the best goalkeepers in the State.

Michael Yoseski in his debut year of Futsal, has gone from great soccer player to great Futsal player. He quickly adapted to the small court and deserves his selection amongst the elite of the state.

And last but not least the powerful and dominant Jonathan Vakirtzis. Totally professional in the way he looks at the sport, the all rounder can play anywhere on the court. The U'14 state rep is the go to man when the game needs to be won.

The Strikers wishes all of the selected players the best of luck in the Nationals. May they represent their state with pride!

St Albans Strikers Futsal Club in conjuction with Gilson College are proud to announce the partnership that will see the Strikers use the wonderful three court facilty in Taylors Hill on Thursday evenings from February 2012 onwards. The agreement will allow our club to expand both its Junior and Senior Social leagues but also focus on developing the new Legea M League that will see some of the best Futsal Teams in Melbourne showcase their talents on a full size 40 metre by 20 metre International court. With ample room for spectators and a beautiful rubber playing surface, the stadium is second to none and will confirm our club's intention on delivering the best possible service to the Futsal community of the west and wider Melbourne metropolitan area. Some latest developments include:

- looking at playing some of our Junior Summer Season Finals in February at the Gilson College Stadium

- We are looking for teams in all categories to start playing from February onwards - Mens, Womens, Mixed and Juniors

- Incentives and price packages for current teams playing on Monday and Wednesday nights at St Albans to also play on Thursday's at Gilson College

- Possible use of Gilson College for our MFL senior matches on Saturday nights in Winter

- Look out for news on the Legea M League starting April 2012. A new boutique 7 team competition, played to international standards. We are currently taking expressions of interest, so please get in contact with us if you want to play in this comp. More detailed info to follow early in the new year

SPRING SEASON FINALS REPORT

Expendables led by captain Dion Portelli have finally won the A Grade Championship by defeating a detremined Shpitz in the Final. Two time winners Shpitz went into their final confidant after defeating the almost invincible Zeljo in a tense semi-final the week before, however the Expendables have shown a new sense of belief this season, making it almost impossible for teams to score past their four man defense. Expendables lead one nil for most of the game, only sealing it in the last minute on a counter attack as Shpitz opened up and threw caution to the wind.

Deano's team defeated Streetkingz in the B Grade Monday Final 7:4, however the tables were turned in the Wednesday B grade final where the Streetkingz hammered Crvena Zveda by 16 goals to 2. The Streetkingz to now meet Deano's Team in the Super League Final early next year.

It was all hands on deck as Argentinos defeated Flaming Mungrols 6:3 in the Wednesday C Grade Final. A great achievement by the experienced South Americans who claim their first title in quite a while.

With round 1 action of the new Summer Season commenced we now have a break for a couple of weeks over xmas and new year. We are back in action on Monday the 9th and Wednesday the 11th of January for round 2 action.

2012 will see an important year in the development of the Strikers Futsal Club and Futsal in general at the State and National level. Anticipating a growth in the sport both at the junior and elite levels, the club has aggressively sought out extra venues and about to embark on an innovative Summer and Winter program. Our philosophy is that the sport of Futsal needs to stand on its own as a major sport and have pathways for kids to aspire to play the sport at the highest level possible. With the addition of the Whitten Oval Sports Halls in Footscray on Saturday afternoons, we are in a proud position to announce many new programs. In a new initiative the Strikers will play all of their home Junior and Senior MFL matches on the larger court at the Whitten Oval Sports Halls on a Saturday afternoon/evening. The other away games will be spread around Caroline Springs, Cheltenham, Bulleen, Oakleigh and Mitchum.

Some of the exciting programs and developments include:

            Trial dates: starting 1pm: Saturday the 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st of March. Once team squads are confirmed, teams will train for the month of April leading up to the competition starting in early May. Season games will be played weekly on a home and away basis.

Strikers Senior and Junior Club Futsal Championships: Utilising 3 different facilities at St Albans, St Albans Heights and Footscray, we will be offering teams within the Strikers compeititions, Soccer clubs, other Futsal clubs an opportunity to play in the biggest Club Futsal Championships of the year. Competition will run in a round robin format with at least three games played by each team. Quarter Finals, Semi-finals and Grand Finals to be played for the winners of each stage. Entry fee whilst not confirmed yet, will be consistant with other club championships, between $30 and $40 a player. As long as we get our quota of teams, further to just awarding trophies and medals, we will also have a prizepool of money to divide up amongst the Junior and Senior sections. Watch this space over the next few days for entry forms and more information about this exciting development.

STRIKERS CLAIM NEW MFL VENUE

The Strikers Futsal Club are proud to announce from 2012 that we will be playing all of our home MFL matches at the brand new Whitten Oval Community Sports Halls in Footscray. The Strikers have entered into a partnership with VU Sport & Recreation to allow the use of the facility on Saturday afternoon's and evenings. In another innovation the Strikers are proposing to the FFV to have all Junior and Senior matches played on the International sized court. This will bring us in line with the NSW Premier League and will see our club at the forefront of Futsal in the state. Exact times of games will be finalised upon consultation with FFV.

We are extremely excited about the aquisition of this facility as it will allow us to:
- stage a Junior and Senior Club Championships in February / March. We are confident we can get a record number of teams entered across the different age groups
- run Mens & Youth trials for our MFL & F League squads starting in Mid January. These sessions will all be played on the International sized court
- run Junior Trials for our MFL squads starting in March. These will also be conducted on the International size court
- stage a Summer Competition on Saturday afternoon / evenings in the months of October, November & December all played on the big court

St Albans taste victory in Futsal Cup Final (VIC)

A 10-4 win over Inner City to win the FFV Futsal Cup Final

St Albans Strikers powered on to claim a comprehensive victory in the Football Federation Victoria Futsal Cup final with a 10-4 defeat of Inner City at the Cheltenham Gymnasium.

Dino Redzepovic gave Robert Lakovski’s men a perfect start by firing in from close range in the first minute before a ferocious strike from Breno Pollati on seven minutes levelled the score line as Inner City caught St Albans on the counter attack.

Jose Portillo restored St Albans lead two minutes later before Ivan Zilic and Alija Redzepovic added two more goals to give Strikers a 4-1 lead at half-time.

Matteo De Angelis gave Inner City a slim glimmer of hop on 25 minutes only to be cancelled out straight away by Zilic’s second after good work down the left by Portillo who set up the tap in.

Dino and Alija Redzepovic added a further two more goals before Pollati tucked home a penalty for Inner City to grab his second goal of the game on 37 minutes.

St Albans then added a further three goals in the last three minutes with both Zilic and Portillo grabbing hat tricks before Antonis Apostolakis headed home a consolation goal for Inner City just before the end.

STRIKERS WIN IN MASTERCLASS DISPLAY

On Friday night the young guns of the Pirates Youth team were taught a lesson in how to play futsal by the experienced St Albans team.

Going into the break the reds were only in front 4-2, but pulled away in the second half to comfortably win 13-4. Playing to Stop Clock rules, it became an exercise in fitness and strategy, which was all part of the lesson for the blues. Captain Reuben Langerak was outstanding in defence, and was backed up by the vastly experienced Roger Cua in goals. Roger flew down to Melbourne as part of the Joma Sala Alliance to play with the Pirates in the Cup. He held an impromtu Goalkeeping session for the junior keepers of the club, before he kitted up to face some of his old friends in the St Albans side.

The Pirates began nervously and conceded a goal within the first minute, followed by another a few minutes later. But, they stuck to their task and scored from some sublime passing for Jonathon De Biase to athletically slot home at the far post. That was more like it. 4-2 at half time and the boys were still in it. However, despite the heroics in goal from Cua, the persitent onslaught from the likes of Tomo Grgic and the ever young Ivan Zilic, with his silky left foot, plus Jusuf Avdic’s thunder bolt shots (none went in this time!) were all too much for the Pirates. It was a Master Class from St Albans. The Pirates could not maintain their discipline in front of goal and silly errors crept into their game, of which they were duly punished.

It was a joy to watch St Albans and Cua play. Some great futsal was played. The Pirates left the stadium absolutely exhausted, with their blue shirts ringing in perspiration, but, they were not down trodden. Far from it. For these young guys, its not every day that you get a chance to pit your skills against the likes of Grgic and Zilic with a Futsalroo Goalkeeper on your side.

NEWS ON 2011/12 JUNIOR SUMMER FUTSAL SEASON FEBRUARY FIXTURE

JUNIOR SUMMER FUTSAL SEASON

Starting Friday September 23rd

The popular Junior Futsal Summer League is around the corner, with a record number of teams entered in four age groups. This season we will be running an U'9-10, U'10-11, U'12-13 and 14-16 league. All of our usual teams are back for more and we welcome back the Our Boys, Warriors 11, Junior Roos, Lads, Missing Links, Skillz that Killz and many more. With close to 40 teams it promises to be the most exciting season yet.

The teams that are returning from their winter break will resume their Summer Futsal league matches on Friday the 23rd of September. The teams that finished their Winter Season commitments on the 16th of September will resume their Summer Season matches on either the 7th or 14th of October.

The Summer Season will continue through to December the 16th and then break for three weeks for Christmas. The Season will then recommence on Friday the 6th of January, with finals starting in February. The finals will finish by the end of February.

Strikers coaches will also be selecting players to represent the club in the new reformatted Winter Melbourne Futsal League in 2012.

The Strikers Futsal Club this summer will be offering a training program for interested teams or individual players. These training sessions will run every Saturday and will aim to improve the tactical, technical and fitness aspects of a Futsal player. We have been approached by many individual parents and teams that are keen on having specific Futsal training, especially during the Summer off season. We will be taking bookings for teams to train together and also provide times for individual players to train in a pleasant, fun and fulfilling environment.
